How we were involved

KFC had been researching Europe’s modular construction sector.  Having seen the success of modular McDonalds, they wanted to deploy the same technology into their construction capability.

There were a range of design factors which made the well-established providers of modular buildings around Europe price the build of modular KFC’s too high.  Our engagement was to determine the factors that were providing barriers of entry to KFC into the modular marketplace and to develop and approach that would successfully enable them to benefit from MMC.

Outcome

Our research and development work identified that KFC should look at lower volume modular manufacturers.  We worked with them to refine their design to enable easier access to the MMC supply chain.  The result of our work has seen low-volume modular supplier M-AR deliver the first modular KFC in the UK.
